    Greek Characters (Word 2002)

Is there a Greek alphabet I can use to get Greek letters in my word document?

    1. The Symbol font contains Greek characters in the positions normally occupied by Latin characters. So if you type an S, you'll get a Sigma etc.

    2. Many Unicode fonts contain a Greek character set; you'll have to use Insert | Symbol... and set the subset to Basic Greek to get at these (or memorize the codes - ugh)

Assuming you know the English equivalent to the greek letter, the easiest way is to type the English letter, select it, then Ctrl-Shift-Q (which simply applies the symbol font to whatever is selected). Or sometimes it's faster--e.g. if you simply need an isolated in-line character while you're typing a sentance--to type Ctrl-Shift-Q, then a (for example, which will display an alpha), then ctrl-spacebar (to remove the symbol font), then keep typing away.
