numbering and tabs?

One of my office mates is using numbering on a list and when she starts a new 1 the indent (tab?) point is not the same as above. Where can she find pointers for doing this. Bullets and numbers is a feature I never use so I am no use to her. Thanks

I am not 100% sure what you mean by "not the same as above" but if she goes to Format - Bullets and Numbering, Numbered Tab, finds the numbering format that she wants, then presses customize, she will be able to change the alignment, font etc.. If what she is trying to achieve is lining up the number with the start of text in the paragraph above this can easily be acheived in this area.

Thanks
I -think- she means the numbers in the second section don't line up to the numbers in the first section

Re: numbering and tabs?

The numbering system in Word is buggy. You didn't specify the version of Word. For example, in Word 97, using Arabic numerals results in one indent; using Roman numerals results in another. As mentioned above, you can go into Bullets & Numbering.../Customize & modify the defaults.

For more information on numbering, see http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Numbering/Wo...ngExplained.htm

Hope this helps.

I join in the recommendation that you (or your friend) read Word's Numbering Explained. Also, while on the site, do a search for "Jason" to find information on the "Jason tab" which may be the problem she's running into.

Word 2000's treatment of bullets and numbering is driving me nuts, too. I went to the MVPS site and tried to download the useful article you recommended, in PDF format, but I got a plugin error. Could be my system, but who knows? Anyhow, if you have the PDF version of "Words Numbering Explained" that you can email to me, I'll be eternally grateful.

I have Windows 98 on a PC.

Hi Betsy:

The problem must be that you don't have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your system. PDF files can only be read by Acrobat. You can download & install a plug-in on your browser by going to

http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/.

You should definitely do this as many files on the internet are in PDF format.

Hope this helps.

Re: numbering and tabs?

Phil,

Most of my computer problems are my own fault! I'd very recently downloaded the newest version of Acrobat Reader, but hadn't opened it. That's required to initialize a bunch of things, and does not happen when you try to download a file to display immediately from the Internet. Anyhow, after I opened the Reader, everything worked perfectly.
