    Registry Mechanic

Has anyone come across this program, and could give a view on how it compares with other such ones?

I found the blurb in the WIndows and .NET Magazine list...

"Your Windows Registry May Have Errors and Need Repair!
Registry errors usually lead to slow, unpredictable PC operation and can cause unknown Windows problems and crashes.
Download your FREEtrial of Registry Mechanic today to quickly identify and repair invalid references in your registry.

Ah, I misread your post. So it is. While looking for a link, I came across this discussion about BeClean. Don't know if there's a reason it was pulled.

    Here's more.

    Re: Registry Mechanic

WARNING! Some users (not all) have had major problems with the registry cleaner in BeClean. Refer to <!post=Phil's post ,298835>Phil's post <!/post> below.

    Hi John

I don't have any comments for you wrt Registry Mechanic, but there are Free programs available that check for registry problems and "fix" them.
One I've seen good reports on is BeClean, although I've no first hand experience with it.
Spybot S&D also does a registry cleanup.

    Have a Great day!!!

    Phil,

there's a reason it was pulled.

Apparently it was causing some nasty problems. Rushing some code to the market before a good test period?

    Re: Registry Mechanic

I use Reg Mechanic and I can't give a comparison because although I have other free number of reg cleaners, it's the only one I use. No problems, and I like what it does. It's from the maker of Tweak Manager a a gui interface for what has grown to 1000 reg edits--he adds every week. I use Tweak Manager and his manual regedits and am well satisfied with them. Most of the regedits are free manually on his site, Win Guides.

I have watched the reports of a number of problems from some of the registry cleaners and helped repair some of them in the lounge, but after using his site for a good while, and reading his tutorials and forums, I believe Simon Clausen from Austrailia who has made the software and the site has a deep knowledge and respect for the registry and this may be one of the better Reg Maintainance apps available--although the only real test is a head on compare and contrast.

Ed SMBP: The discounts on his site John will be equal to any you see in Win .net Magazine.
