    Template Tabs (Word XP)

We are in the process of converting old documents into Templates. In doing so, we have added several tabs so that when a user goes to File, New from Template they can click on their practice area and see the templates associated. However, so far we have one practice group (and possibly more) whose templates need to be categorized further and can't be lumped under one tab. Is it possible to create subfolders in the File, New from Template window? If not, how have you organized your templates without the use of a third party application such as Softwise, iCreate, LegalMacPac, etc.?

Hopefully others will chime in with their solutions/workarounds/recommendations, but no, you can't create further subdivisions in the Templates dialog. Apart from some tabs created by Word itself, each subfolder of the user templates folder and of the workgroup templates folder will become a tab in the dialog, but the contents of sub-subfolders below those will be lumped together.

You could create a macro that re-uses the open dialog, pointed to the appropriate directory, but execute a File New rather than a File Open. The more I think about this, the more I think it might be better to buy a ready-made solution if that fits the need well. Trying to explain this to the users would be a bit confusing...
