    Plain text? (Word 2000)

I am editing files in Word that are supposed to be plain text, but when Word opens them, it sees the HTML coding in the plain text, and opens the files as webpages. Is there some way to stop this from happening?

Try setting the file type to "Recover text from any file(*) before opening them
