WOW is also killing my Pegasus Mail 4.12 (IE 6.0.2800 etc)

I had a similar experience as ERROLV with the last two WOWs, the latest being 6.21. I do recall having a similar one off experience in the last year. If the offending WOW gets to the top of the list in Pegasus' email window, you cannot get back into Pegasus as it dies each time the focus gets onto that email.

The work around is presumably as suggested - switch to text for WW newsletters (or at least WOW).

Just in case anyone else experiences the severity that I did, here is how to do a one off fix. Using Windows Explorer go to your User new mail folder in the Pegasus Mail folder (e.g. I have multiple Users set up and I was using Ken to retrieve the emails that included WOW). Within User you will find one or more files suffixed .CNM Each of these is a mail item in the new mail folder. Move all th e.CNM files to another folder temporarily, restart Pegasus, then move them back to the User folder one at a time (noting the file name) refreshing the new mail folder each time. Eventually Pegasus will die again and you know the last one you moved was the offending email. Delete it, move the rest of the.CNM files back into the User folder and you're AOK. Well almost -- change your Woody's format to text until Woody's and/or Pegasus sort out the issue).

    Regards, Ken, Melbourne, OZ

Re: WOW is also killing my Pegasus Mail 4.12 (IE 6.0.2800 etc)

There is/was a discussion about this very issue on the Pmail list this week.

A couple of things were noted. The HTML in the W*W that was checked, was not valid html markup as per the W3's HTML validator. It was checked for HTML 4.01 (I think) right on up to XHTML 1.0,

    So that's problem 1.

Problem 2 is that the TER rendering engine that Pmail uses has "issues" with html. It always had, but it's getting better.

Throw those two together and you get PMail 4.12a crashing with some of Woody's HTML newsletters. WAW doesn't do crash Pmail for me, WOW and WWW do sometimes, but not all of them.

Apparently these newsletters don't crash PMail 4.02. So reverting back to 4.02 may be worth thinking about.

Oops - there doesn't appear to be an option to receive WOW in text format so I guess that means unsubscribe and read via the WOW web site from time to time.

    Ken again

Just to let you know, there is a member of the PMail mailing list, who I believe is a beta tester for Pegasus as well, is disecting WOW's HTML to see where it breaks Pegasus.

He is going to try and work with David Harris, Pegasus' author, to get it to not crash.

Hopefully it won't take too long.

If I hear more, I'll post it here.

Hmmm... I've always received WOW (Woody's Office Watch) in plain text format. And the most recent issue was #8.39. Are you sure it's WOW and not one of the others that's causing this problem?

    Jeff,
I subscribe to six W*W's, and only the "O" edition crashes. I tried moving the "good" messages between folders (within Pegasus 4.12). When Peg "touched" the offending WOW, Pegasus crashed, and I lost the new folder and the WOWs that had already been moved.

    Bryan, keep us posed. Thanks.
