Setting Indentions and Tabs on Ruler (Word 2002)

Has anyone else experienced a hard time setting tabs and indentions (with the mouse) at exact locations on the ruler? For instance, I'd like to have an indention set at 1" on the ruler, but cannot do so at this exact spot with my mouse....it is either placed right before or right after the 1" setting. I have to go through the menu to accomplish this. Am I missing a setting somewhere?

Try holding the ALT key as you drag the tab stop along the ruler.

<img src=/S/clapping.gif border=0 alt=clapping width=19 height=23> Thanks - but do you have any idea why this happens and is there a control or switch I can change?

Re: Setting Indentions and Tabs on Ruler (Word 2002)

    Hi Vicky:
This happens because Word has an invisible grid that drawing objects & tabs align with. To change this, show the Drawing toolbar, & near the right side is a button with a grid icon. Click it & a dialog box will show up (Snap to Grid). You can either cange the size of the grid or you can turn it off altogether.
    Cheers,
