Watermarks in different versions (OXP-SP2; WinME)

My wife frequently brings work home. She put a watermark in a document using Word 2002 then returned to her office with the file where she uses Word 2000. We can't figure out how to remove the watermark using W2000. Can it be done? Or, is the watermark improvement in W2002 not backwards compatible? (We got around the problem by shipping the file to me where I removed the watermark w/W2002 and sent it back to her, but we'd like to know if there is a way to do it in W2000.)

All suggestions greatly appreciated and gratefully received.

A watermark is a WordArt object anchored to a paragraph in the page header. It should be possible to remove the watermark in Word 2000 by selecting View | Header and Footer..., clicking on the text of the watermark and pressing delete. Post back if that doesn't work.
