Zip file backup

I'm looking for backup software with the following capabilities:
Can backup to zip files that can be unzipped, if required, without using the backup software.

The backup is able to be placed on CD's. My initial backup will be too large for 1 CD so I need to be able to create a spanned set. However, I don't want to use CD packet burning; I've had too many failures with that method already. Therefore, I want to be able to create a set of spanned backup files on my hard drive and then burn each file to a CD. This means that in order to ensure that each zip file in the spanned set fits on a CD I need to be able to set the the maximum size of each file before the backup process up starts.

Finally I need to ensure I can restore from the spanned CD set with the backup software and open the spanned files with WinZip ( or any other zip utility).

I have already tried the software ZipBackup but I have been unable to use the CD's I have created with the method outlined above. Although WinZip and ZipBackup recognise the files as part of a spanned set they are unable to open or restore them.

I'll be grateful for any suggestions.
Thanks in advance,
John

I'm afraid he isn't - Woody hasn't been online since July, 31.

Re: Zip file backup

Is anyone else having problems with Zipbackup?
Or am I one of the few, the rare and the isolated? I did try a few times to make it work, failed and said, that's enough. On to another one.

Re: Zip file backup

I downloaded it and got it to "run" (the GUI) with no problem, but I immediately saw that it wasn't what I wanted, so I never actually tried to run it to make a backup. I un-installed it immediately after.

Woody is still churning out newsletters regularly, so there is nothing wrong, I trust. He hasn't been actively involved in the day-to-day functioning of the Lounge, except perhaps at the very beginning, but that's before my time.

I've never noticed it mentioned in WOW, but then (shhh!) I don't read most of the ads.

I hadn't gotten around to opening that one yet. Looks like an ad to me. (I get the plain text, too.)
