Re: Home Page / Start Page (IE / Avant)

    Hi Ricky

How about using your favorite image (wallpaper, photo, illustration, etc). Just point your "homepage" to the file on your hard drive.

    Have a Great day!!!

I use about:blank. BUT... I think the ideal thing is to make your own HTML page as you home page. You could put links to your favorite sites, place any picture you want in there, etc. Too bad I just haven't been inspired enough to spend the time to do it!

Home Page / Start Page (IE / Avant)

For the longest time, I've had my browser set to open to Yahoo! For the most part it's been a good startup screen: News, sports, local wether, etc. It's just getting to where I don't like it so much anymore and I'm looking for a good alternative. If some of you might share your favorite startup sites???

So what pops up on your screen when you start your browser??

Of course, one neat thing about Avant Browser is you can set it up to open multiple sites at startup. Currently, mine opens to Yahoo!, The Lounge, ESPN and a political site. Yahoo! is the one I'm looking to replace. It's fairly simple to "personalize" but more and more it seems to show what "they" want me to see, rather than what I wanted to see!!

Why ask, the only one a Lounger would use is http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/wwwthreads.pl

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    Not necessarily. I go straight to Controls with http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/login.pl?Cat= <img src=/S/laugh.gif border=0 alt=laugh width=15 height=15>

Re: Home Page / Start Page (IE / Avant)

    Well, I knew that one was coming. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

Currently, I use a sratup group [rather than a startup page] and I do, in fact, have one of my Avant "tabs" set to my Lounge Contols Page. The real issue is: I'm looking for a good alternative to Yahoo!. A good start page that will supply the top news stories, top sports headlines, local weather info and a short list of my favorite links.

Yahoo! will do most of this, but with limitations. First, you have to step through their own self-serving ads by the dozens (and this stuff eats up 33% of the page). Then the content must come from a list that they provide. And if you don't like their menu choices, it's just too bad.

I'm thinking the real solution is going to be desgning my own web page and filling it with the content I want. My internet account includes a good chunk of web space but I'd really have no idea how to begin or what to do with it...
