    Digital Sound Cards?

OK, I haven't been paying too much attention to the multimedia aspects of PCs for a few years, and many thing appear to have passed me by <g>.

A colleague lent me some speakers because mine where getting a lot of interference. They wouldn't work with my sound card, it seems. ( I have a Gigabyte board with sound on the Mobo, it's listed as "Creative Blaster Live").

I noticed the the speaker plug was labeled "Digital In." After a bit of research, I think I have found that there are digital output sound cards, and perhaps mine is not one of them? But my new speakers are digital only? Does this sound right ?

I'd like my computer to do double duty as a stereo, so I can justify a better sound card. Any general suggestions to help clear the fog? CD's and Mp3 playback. Some on-line radio, and light amateur musician stuff.

    Thanks for any ideas

    Re: Digital Sound Cards?

Bought an Audigy LS, and all is well. It has a digital output.
