    Drive Image after partitioning

This is probably not the right Forum but I could not see which one was :-) and I know that Drive Image users visit here!

I have an elderly version of Drive Image, 4 I believe. What I need to know is what happens if I restore an image to a disc that has been partitioned since the image was made?
Will it over-ride the new partition and put the disc back the way it was?
I am asking this because my son wants to install Linux in a new partition and I want to know that I can get back to my last saved image if it all goes pear shaped!

    Thanks for any advice

Wow, Version 4 pre-dates my "old man's" ability to remember..... I'm pretty sure it will let you choose the destination PARTITION for the restore and (if memory serves me) ask you about whether to change the size or not.. But I should think you could give it a test, stopping short (cancel) of actually letting the restore conclude. Go ahead and make the partition for Linux but don't let your son go through all the work of the installation YET. After the partition is created, start a "simulated" restore and when you get to the screen for destination, see if the screen SHOWS both the original (revised in size) partition AND the new Linux partition. Select the destination partition and see if it asks you the question about re-sizing or not. I'd hit CANCEL unless you really want to see it through to completion to see if it works. Remember, the revised partition obviously has to be big enough to hold the image you're trying to restore. What'cha think?

    Re: Drive Image after partitioning

I think that I will have to give it ago, just get nervous when I play with things like that LOL
Presumably if worst comes worst I could just reformat the Harddrive back to 1 Partition and then recover the image.

I am probably just looking for an excuse to keep him off my machine! :-)
