    #VALUE! (Excel 97)

I need to SUM across a number of cells all of which have formula's - waiting to be triggered by an INDEX arrangement.

These cells can either have a dollar amount in them or at times some can have no Dollar amount (just the formula) depending on what is being collected by the INDEX.
I think Excel is "seeing" the formiula as TEXT how can this be worked around?

    Regards

    Re: #VALUE! (Excel 97)

    SUM will ignore text

If you have an error (like #VALUE) in one of the cells, then the SUM can NOT calculate (it will return a #value error) since there is NOT a number.

If you expect to have an error and you want to ignore it you can use the SUMIF function and choose something like ">0" (if all the values are >0) or greater than some very large negative number if you expect ot have negative numbers.
