    Mobsync.exe

I'm really missing the search facility because I know there was a posting about this a long time ago - from lounger Lonnie I seem to remember,
There is a program called mobsync.exe running on my W2K machine - it starts at logon time.
I did a google search for this and found it can/should be deleted. I followed the instructions to remove synchronisation of the home page and also disable offline working. However, on reboot, the thing is still there and running again.
How can I stop this permanently, please?

Go to Regedit and find the key below and then just delete Synchronization Manager. But make sure you backup that up 1st in case you want to use it later.
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentV ersionRun]
    "Synchronization Manager"="mobsync.exe /logon

Click on the "General Windows Solutions" in Controls...show threads box="active in the last year"...Change.
I just kept clicking on the pages until I saw my thread "Mobsync.exe"...that's how I find old threads in each Forum when I can't remember the date, etc....works for me...slow, but I have plenty of time to waste <img src=/S/evilgrin.gif border=0 alt=evilgrin width=15 height=15>

You do need to know that you can sort threads by Subject and also by Poster.

Clicking on those linked headings brings up a re-sorted order. Then it's just a matter of hunting through the range of pages for the likely part of the alphabet. This may not always solve your problems, but it has saved me a fair bit of time during the past few months.

    unkamunka--

This is a big help, and the alphabetization can be a significant time saver when searching. I do need to know it and I didn't. Often as you know, with a lot of lists in Windows components, and others you can click on the top heading and get a resort in reverse, in alphabetical order, ect. When you click on the post heading, you get an arrow and I'm still trying to see some of the options that exist there.

Any other tricks for searching the lounge?

    Thanks,

    SMBP

I'm sure you know of tapping Ctrl + F in your browser to search for a particular character string on a web page.

The only other thing that comes to mind is doing a search in your e-mail client of past Daily Archives - but that presumes both that you've kept them and that they are for the Forum you want to search under.

    Re: Mobsync.exe

Thanks to everyone - Cowboy, Lonnie and Unkamunka (love that handle!)
I haven't deleted that key, have read Lonnie's post and am greateful to Unkamunka.
The lounge had previously pointed me to a freeware programme called RegSeeker which I had installed. One of the things this does is to list all the programmes which are started automatically. Selecting the mobsync entry, there is an option to disable the start up. I did this, and mobsync is no longer running, although its entry remains in the start up list. Incidentally, the same RegSeeker list showed that I had tapicfg.exe running - one of the things installed by the ByteVerify trojan which I had previously deleted, which made me think my PC was 'clean'. I used a programme called CWShredder.exe which removed all aspects of the trojan.
So thanks to the lounge, asking one question has solved more than problem!
    Thanks again, loungers.

    Cowboy:

I saw your post in passing... tried it, and mobsync "came back" at the next start-up.

    ??

    Re: Mobsync.exe

You deleted it from the registry and it came back? I don't understand how it could do that. Oh well, what the heck. Sorry.

    Re: Mobsync.exe

    Hi Chuck
Try following the info on how to stop windows synchronising, as detailed in the post which Lonnie identified in this thread, then delete the registry entry.
With a bit of luck mobsync won't come back. (if windows knows that it has to synchronise the home page, it might start mobsync regardless - however, I know diddly squat about how windows/registry works!)
