Re: Spyware remover

The starpost mentioned is good advice. But one program not mentioned is SpywareBlaster. This is actually recommended by Spybot S & D as a better alternative to its Immunize function. SpywareBlaster doesn't scan and clean for spyware - it prevents it from ever being installed.

    Huh?

To prevent most Adware, Spyware and Hijack ware from installing in the first place, download SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard and StartupMonitor. As with Adaware and Spybot S&D, update the reference files regularly (none required for StartupMonitor).

    Re: Spyware remover

Tech TV ran this report yesterday October 27 comparing Spybot, Adaware, the paid version of Adaware, and Norton Antivirus 2004 which also advertises to do what Spybot and Adaware do. They used 10 types of the most annoying spyware, and the results were that all of them were able to detect 10/10 which is very good news and re-enforces a lot of what's been said in praise on the Lounge, but none of them were able to stop them from loading on in real time.

The significance there is that's what you're paying the $27 for in the paid version of Ad-Aware, so with this test the paid version of AdAware becomes pointless since the free version will do exactly what the paid version will do.

This points up the need for other pre-emptive anti-spyware guards or bouncers at the door or the rope line to keep the bad guys from entering your system in the first place.

    Re: Spyware remover

I second Alan`s mention of SpywareBlaster. I have been using it for a while now and have noticed a huge difference in what both AdAware and Spybot find (or don`t find). As Alan said SpywareBlaster does stop spyware getting on the system at all. It is rare now for Spybot to find anything on my system. I normally get the "Congratulations" message. I totally recommend this program
