    Accessing Templates (XP SP1)

Okay, what is the shortcut key to bring up the general templates dialogue without doing File->New-> and then getting the Taks Pane!!!

Not sure if there is a shortcut key. There is a button for this under Tools | Customize... Commands - where you could then assign a shortcut key: It is under the All Commands category. It is FileNewDialog. (It took me awhile to find this - it was frustrating me too)

If you want to use VBA, you can use Dialogs(wdDialogFileNew).Show

There is no built-in shortcut key, but you can assign one yourself:
    - Select Tools | Customize...
    - Click Keyboard...
    - You will probably want to store modifications in Normal.dot, so that they are available in all documents.
    - Select 'All Commands' in the list of Categories.
    - Select FileNewDialog in the list of commands. Ignore the description of the command, it's wrong.
    - Click in the "Press ..." box.
    - Press the desired shortcut key; if it is already assigned, that will be shown. It is up to you to decide if you want to overrule an existing assignment.
    - If you want another shortcut, clear the box and try again.
    - If you want to assign the shortcut key, click Assign.
    - Close the dialogs.
