You do not exclusive access... (Access XP)

Users to the DB are getting the following prompt when another user is in the DB (no one is in the object window nor design view but when they are in a form). We get this prompt at times when we open the DB or when we try to move from object to object, such as, clicking on a command button on a form to print a report:

Prompt: "You do not have exclusive access to the database at this time. If you proceed to make changes you may not be able to save them later"

This database was upgraded from Access 97 to Access XP and it's on a shared server. I've looked at Options, Advanced and the Default Open Mode is not set to Exclusive.

    Thank you!

    1. Do you have an instruction DoCmd.Save or RunCommand acCmdSave anywhere in the code behind your database? If so, you should be aware that both instructions try to save the design of a database object such as a form; they don't save your data.

    2. If you have an instruction DoCmd.Close anywhere in your database, it should always be used with acSaveNo as third argument. This prevents Access from trying to save the design of a database object. Data will still be saved automatically.

In addition to Hans' suggestions, make sure your forms are not set up to allow design changes in All Views. The appropriate setting is Design View Only.
