'connect' Outlook to Access or Excel (2000)

People love the reminder features of Outlook. They have lists of tasks in Excel or have included deadlines in Access systems and they want to send these to Outlook for reminders. Which means I need to learn more about those possibilies. Where do I start my education on this?

It is SO nice to know that I have a resource in the Lounge. I may not have a clue, but I know an excellent source of clue-givers!!

    Thank you

You can use Automation to control Outlook from Access or Excel using VBA code. A starting point is OL2000: How to Automate Outlook from Another Program.

You can download a help file with lots of examples: OFF2000: Microsoft Office 2000 Automation Help File Available.

If you have specific questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Re: 'connect' Outlook to Access or Excel (2000)

Thank you for the starting directions. This project will be done (mostly) by someone with considerable Access programming experience and no Outlook experience, not even Outlook use experience. As an Outlook user, I'll be helping, but I'm no programmer. Specifically, we'll be pulling from Excel to the Outlook Task folder. If we need to, we'll take the info from Excel through Access and then to Outlook. The Microsoft Help files are sketchy . We are using the links you sent and digging into MS KB files as well. Can you recommend a source of examples that can be followed, preferably examples that begin with data in another program and follow it through? Maybe an entry-level book where there is more complete explanation to accompany the instructions.

    Thanks so much

I don't know about books on this subject. Anyone else?

Helen Feddema has many examples and downloads on her website, but it seems to be inaccessible at the moment.

Where Hans is coming from the Access side, he also works (I dabble) in Outlook client side VBA, where these Outlook links may also be helpful:

http://www.slipstick.com/ see the Outlook programming book links and various code discussions. For entry level (my level <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>) I have Sue Moshers book, referenced on Slipstick and here. Her book has several ADO examples.

Randy Byrne's http://www.microeye.com/ has a very complete Recommended Books list here, and graphic documentation of the Outlook Object models here.

Re: 'connect' Outlook to Access or Excel (2000)

When I try to run the routine, I get the message that "macros have been disabled." This did not happen the first time I tried, but now I cannot get past it. How does one ENABLE macros? Help doesn't help! (P.S. - I wish I were working in 2000, but I have XP on the computer, and of course that means Outlook is XP.)

Thanks for your patience and assistance.

Set Tools | Macro | Security to Medium, close and restart Outlook. Post back if this doesn't fix the problem.
