Outlook 2000 Calendar - Private Appointments

Using the corporate/workgroup installation. A person who is set as an owner of another person's calendar is able to make a private appointment for that person but then they cannot edit, view details of, or delete that appointment. Any ideas why? Doing things with the Delegate settings makes no difference.

On the delegate permission screen there is a checkbox for "delegate can see my private items". This is not checked by default.

Yep . . . I checked that box but the actual text of the appointment is still not visible to the owner, nor can they edit or delete the appointment. Visible text just says "Private Appointment" (or something similar).

Sorry to be so obvious but has the 'real' owner of the calendar set the 'Private' checkbox at the bottom right of the appointment dialogue box?
If so, I think even though someone else is set up as 'Delegate Owner', Outlook will not let them see the appointment text.
Just a thought.

Now there's a thought!! Although I thought he told me he'd done that. But . . . I'll check on Monday. Thanks for the help.

Re: Outlook 2000 Calendar - Private Appointments

Hi Suzanna
I've just tested this out with my good lady wife (who works in the same company but uses a different mail server)
She gave me owner permission to her calendar and set up an appointment with text for a subject but marked it private.
When I did Open other user's folder - Her calendar, the appointment was displayed but the text was hidden the only text displayed was "Private Appointment" with the key symbol next to it.

So Brian it would be interesting to see what happens when you as "owner" of your wife's calendar, make a private appointment for her. My guess is that having made it, you will only see "Private Appointment" and won't be able to edit it or delete it which seems pretty stupid to me.

Re: Outlook 2000 Calendar - Private Appointments

OK - Suzanna and I have tested this pretty extensively and this documents our findings.
I tested using Outlook 2000 in corporate mode connecting to Exchange 5.5.
My wife gave me 'Owner' permissions to her Calendar (and Mailbox). I was able to make appointments, open them and delete them - as you'd expect. However, when I created an appointment and marked it private, as soon as the appointment was saved, the only text I could see was "Private Appointment" and I could no longer open it or delete it!
If I accessed a normal appointment created by my wife, I could see all the text, open it and delete it. However, a private appointment created by her had the same restrictions as one created by me i.e I couldn't open it or delete it.
She could open and delete any appointment I created.
Just looks like a quirk in delegate permissions/private appointment attribute - unless another lounger knows otherwise . . .
Hope this helps someone to avoid going gaga over the same issue.
