    Access Source Control add-in (AccessXP)

I have Microsoft Office XP, and Microsoft Visual source Safe 6.0. However, I don't have OfficeXP Developer.

Can I use Visual Source Safe with my Access database? I read in the documentation that OfficeXP developer gives the Access Source Control add-in, but I was wondering if this add-in is available from Visual Source Safe?

Yes you can use VSS with Access, I do all the time
The add-in in XP Developer add a new menu to the Access IDE.
You'll need to create a new Source Safe "database" using the VSS Admin program.

When you use Access with VSS, can you individually check in forms, reports, queries etc.. so that multiple people can work on a database? I tried checking it into VSS and it just puts the entire database in, instead of all the individual pieces. Am I doing something wrong?

You must be doing something wrong or misunderstanding the result. There is a single VSS *project* for the database. Every code container, forms, reports, modules and even macros and queries, goes into that project as an individual item. The tables, references, relationships, etc., are contained within a file with the same name (usually) as the project. Where are you seeing an "entire database"?

    Charlotte,

From Visual Source Safe 6.0, I add the access database by choosing the File menu, Add Files and then I select the database. The database then becomes read only and appears in the contents of the project. However, in Visual Source Safe all I can see is the database name as a text file. I cannot see any individual items, like the reports, queries etc...

    Thanks!

Yes, that is exactly what will happen if you do it from source safe. That's why you need the Access add-in, you have to do it from Access.

    Charlotte,

Is the only way to get the add-in through buying Office XP Developer edition? or can it be found elsewhere?

    Thanks

As far as I know, it's only available in the Office Developers Edition through Access XP, unless it also comes with the full version of VSS.

    Charlotte,

I have the full verson of VSS and it doesn't appear to be there.

    Thanks for your help.
