There is no mention of one being required before installing the other in the Knowledge Base, so I guess it doesn't really matter. If you want to be on the safe side, install the Office update first, it is from October, 2002, while the Jet update is from June, 2003.

    Hi Hans

Once these updates are applied, if the customer runs Detect and Repair from the Help Menu, which may call for the original installation source (CD?), do the

    1. Office 2000 Update: Service Pack 3 (SP3) Released: 10/21/2002

    And

    2. Microsoft Jet 4.0 SP7 WXP

    have to run again?

    Thanks, John

    John,

I must admit I don't know. It think that Detect and Repair for Office XP is smart enough to handle updates, but I don't know about Office 2000. I hope that somebody who has experience with Office 2000 can enlighten you.

    Hi Hans

I ran the O2kSp3.exe update successfully.

The update asked for my original CD 1 & 2, which was OK

I have customers with 10 to 15 client computers that have the full Microsoft Office 2000 installed on each client.

What is the best strategy to get each client computer updated consistently and on a timely basis with O2kSp3.exe and Jet SP7?

    Thanks, John

Isn't it the client's own responsibility to keep their PC up-to-date?

    Hi Hans

    Yes it is.

Most of my client's are small and don't have IT staff to look after them.

Was just wondering how other sites large and small manage their updates.

    Thanks, John

If you have broadband internet access, you can download the full patch and burn it on a CD; you can also order a CD free of charge. See Office 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3). The Jet update can probably be downloaded as a distributable file from the Windows Update Catalog, but I haven't tried that.

No, it can't be downloaded from the Windows update site except for the version of Windows you're currently running. So if you need the Jet SP for a different version of Windows, you have to get it elsewhere. This link to the US Microsoft site will give you the various download options for different versions of Windows.

The stragety to update a customer site with 15 client computers with each having Microsoft Office 2000 installed is as follows:

    1. Copy original MS Office 2000 CD 1 to server
    2. Copy original MS Office 2000 CD 2 to server
    3. Copy O2kSp3.exe to server
    4. From client computer, Run O2kSp3.exe from server
    5. When asked, browse to CD 1 on server
    6. When asked, browse to CD 2 on server
    7. Repeat steps 4 through 6 for each of the remaining 14 client computers

Would like to here from others if there is a better way
