    Remember password (W2K / IE5 or 6)

I have been asked to help someone at work and I havent a clue how they have got to where they are now. We run through a proxy server to the internet. Basically when the dialogue box comes up and challenges for a password you can normally decide whether to have the machine save the password, in which case you check a box. In his implementation this whole topic is just missing. No "do you want to save" no checkbox.

Colleagues talk about registry settings and password options, but I dont know where to go. Any ideas please?

    Re: Remember password (W2K / IE5 or 6)

Generally when you enter a password a Dialog Box pops up and asks you if you want IE to save the password or not. You are given a Yes/No option -- plus below this is a check box that asks you if you don't want IE to keep asking you about saving passwords. If my memory serves, checking that box disables the "Save Password" dialog box.

Clearly this would be stored in the Registry. Now to find where...

First try this: Go to Tools | Internet Options | Content tab | AutoComplete button -- and make sure the "password prompt box" is checked correctly.

If that does not work, then it might be this registry key: How to Disable Internet Explorer Password Caching. You would want to do the opposite of that -- either delete the value, or set it to "0".

Lastly, there is another registry value here:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftInternet ExplorerMain
    "FormSuggest PW Ask"=

If that is set to "no", then change it to "yes". (This might do the same thing as the AutoComplete box...)

Another thing, if you are at work, your IT department may have turned OFF this feature.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Turns out someone switched on "Protected Storage" in some policy area thinking it would help?

Thanks for your input - I will have a look at this anyway.

    Hmmmm,

I copy my post to you as a way of saying thanks. Right in one, as they say.....
