    Prompts & Wildcards (Any Version)

I want to set up a prompt in a query, prompting for [Company] so I used [Enter Company Name] in the criteria section. However, it is so exact that it will not allow me to use * so that I don't have to enter the entire company name. For example, someone may type Shaw when in fact the entire name is Shaw Manufacturing, so I want to make it as easy as possible so they don't have to remember the entire name.

Is there a way to do this in the Query without having to resort to VBA, etc.?

    Thanks.

If you want the user to enter the first characters of the name, use this in the criteria line:<pre>Like [Enter Company Name] & "*"</pre>

If you want the user to be able to enter any part of the name, use<pre>Like "*" & [Enter Company Name] & "*"</pre>

Hans, thank you very much for the quick response. I had the asterisk in there, it was the ampersand I didn't use.

This gives me exactly what I was looking for and I appreciate your help very much.
