Setting default reply account (Outlook 2002 SR2)

I have multiple accounts in my Outlook 2002. For some reason it always wants to reply using an acount that is NOT my default account. How do I set which account is used to reply by default?
    Thanks

    Hi John,

It should be as simple as going to Tools > Email Accounts, then select "View or Change Existing Email Accounts" and click on next. From the list of accounts given, select the one that you want as the default and then click on the "Set As Default Button". This should set this account as the default for any replies that you send out.

However from what you are saying, you have already selected your default account and any replies you send are not using this default. Is this correct?

    Cheers,

Yes, that is correct. The default account is set correctly. When I send a NEW email, it is sent from the default account. But when I REPLY to an email (one addressed to the default account) it initially goes out under a different account. I could try deleting every thing but the default account I suppose, & then re-creating the second account.

Please defind "initially goes out under a different account"?

If you check your settings in each account, you will find that you are sending through the ISP that you are connected to. But the email will be listed as being sent by x account.

Send youself a few emails using the different accounts and you will see what I mean.

    Dave,
I have 2 accounts: heckman@heckmanco.com (the default account) and johnf@heckmanco.com (for some personal email).
If I create a new message, it is correctly sent from the heckman@heckmanco account
However, if I REPLY to a message addressed to heckman@heckmanco.com, it is sent from the johnf@heckmanco.com. I have to change every singel reply manually (now that I realiz what was going on).
I have checked that the reply email etc. is correct in all settings.

    Dave,
This just gets more and more bizarre. If I totally delete the user "Johnf" from outlook, then compact the database, then exit and re-open Outlook , when I reply to an email addressed to the default user (heckman), the reply says it is STILL being sent by johnf (who no longer exists on the list of accounts). I am an administrator on this machine, so I know changes are getting saved. Something must be corrupt somewhere. The question is, can I fix it without totally destroying my email and starting over?

Re: Setting default reply account (Outlook 2002 SR

Frustration must be making me stupid, I seem not to be able to explain myself.
I get a message addressed to "heckman@heckmanco.com" (which is my default account)
    I reply
The reply goes out using "johnf@heckmanco.com" (which exists, but is not the default acount, and anyway, shouldn't the reply automatically use the address it was sent to?)
It is very obscure to me what you mean by "Account Screen" If I go into Tools | E-Mail Accounts & change them, I have 2: heckman@heckmanco.com (the default) and johnf@heckmanco.com.
When I reply it says "this message will be sent via johnf" I have to manually change it every single time I reply to any email.
Furthermore, even if I delete the "johnf" account ENTIRELY (again, from Tools | E-Mail Accounts or from the control panel Outlook profile, which is the only profile on the machine), it STILL claims to be replying using that account.
    This is crazy.

Maybe Outlook is losing or trashing the Account information. Of course, then you'd expect it to use the default. Hmmm...

    If you add the [b]E-mail

After you address jscher2000's questions, post a screen shot showing the outgoing information on the emails in questions.

Where are you seeing this "Johnf"" as the sending agent?
If it is in the Outlook "From" column, then it is a setting within your Account screen.

Check to see what is shown on the account screen and see what is listed in the "Your Name" and "User name" area. If "Johnf" is listed it may be coming from there.

Re: Setting default reply account (Outlook 2002 SR

I finally logged in directly to my ISP directly & it seems they had somehow switched account references. Had nothing to do with Outlook at all. It's always nice to realize you are NOT becoming brain-dead. Fixed now. Thanks for all your help.
