Timed transitions without timings (PPT 2000)

I have a standard presentation of announcement slides that runs in the period before the church service starts. They are set at 10 seconds per slide and loops at the end. Occasionally I put in a new slide (or three) and forget to set the transition time. And the presentation runs just fine, apparently adopting the 10 second period automatically. The slide sorter view shows them as no time.

Is there a rule that describes this? Does it pick up the timing from the slide immediately before or somewhere else? If I actually wanted it to stop on that slide, how would I do that?

I am quite new to Powerpoint 2002 but when I was having a play around I found that in the Slide-Show tab you have the transistion option, if you click this you get various options come up on the right of the screen. One of these options is 'apply to all' I guess that if this was the case on the original presentation it would then apply to any added slides.
