    Save data not merge field (2002 sp 2 on windows xp sp1)

    This must be on here someplace but can't search. I have several Word documents that use merge fields to pick up data from Access. When I save the documents and then open them later they require that access be open again to fill in the fields. Is there some way to save the document so it saves with the data and not the merge fields. I would like to save the docs as they appear on screen so the database is not necessary any longer.

    That is what the "Merge to new document" option is for. There is a button on the Mail Merge toolbar for this, and an option ("Edit individual documents" ?) in Step 6 of the Mail Merge task pane.
