For step by step instructions I would suggest a book. The best book (out of the dozens I have read on the subject) is "This Wired Home" by Alan Neibauer and Microsoft Press. Trust me I am a part time college instructor and use it in my introduction to networking class. The latest edition covers XP but you should be able to find the 2nd edition (which does not cover XP) used somewhere like Amazon.
