    Error message (XP)

I'm having a couple of problems, I'm hoping someone can help me with.
A couple of weeks ago my pc starting doing weird things and as I've had it for a couple of years decided it was probably time to give it a good clean out. So I reformated the C partition of my HDD and did a completely new install of XP Home Edition. Then the problems started.

Now whenever I turn on my pc I get the following message:
    System has recovered from a serious error. The error signature notes: BCCODE: 1A BCPI:00000781 BCP2: C03716 58 BCP3:00000000 BCP4: E2373E50 OSVER:5_1_2600 PRODUCT: 768_1

My second problem is, I used Windows Updated and needed to download Service Pack 1a, which I did after 7 hours of downloading only to have it come up with a corrupt error and refuse to install. So I downloaded it at work and burnt it onto CD, brought it home to install and basically received the same error.

Finally whenever I now try to install one of my kids games, they seem to install but then won't play.

I've now reformated and installed XP 3 times and am still having the same problems.

Could it be that I have an undetected virus or trojan in one of my other partitions?
Should I maybe format my whole HDD?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated
    Dax

Did you install ALL of the drivers for your hardware with new downloads from the OEMs? You need to do this before the windows update.
You may have the generic drivers installed, and the hardware may not like them.

    Hi Dave

Thanks for the reply, although I'm not sure what you mean about installing all the drivers for my hardware with new downloads from OEM's?

All I did was format my C partition then did a new install of Windows. After installing Windows identified my hardware and I didn't need to do anything else. Have I missed something

What you have is the "Generic" drivers that come with Windows XP. You need to go to the web sites of each unit that may need drivers, i.e., graphics card, network card, printers, cd burners, some mice and etc.
