    PST files (Outlook 2003 Beta)

<img src=/S/crossfingers.gif border=0 alt=crossfingers width=17 height=16> I have several .pst files which I cannot gain access to. I believe that they are a compound of Outlook 2003 (Beta 2) and Outlook 2003 (RTM). Don't ask I don't know how I did it. If anyone has the .pst file structure I can use that to get my email back. There are several application registration numbers in these files and this is the only way to retrieve them. I have already contacted the companies involved... their answer is; without a registration number we can not provide you with customer support.

Just an idea: have you tried importing the email into Outlook Express?

Re: PST files (Outlook 2003 Beta)

    John,
The message I get on several of the .pst files is: *.pst is not compatible with this version of the Personal Folders service. See your administrator.

I was able to retrieve three .pst files into Outlook 2003 (Beta 2). Now I have the onerous task of weeding out all the duplicates, triplicates, ad nauseum...

Re: PST files (Outlook 2003 Beta)

Yes I have. When I do OE v6.0 just sticks its tongue out at me. Actually it tells me that the file is not a valid Win32 application (I honest don't know what that means).

    Thanks for the suggestion.

I didn't find any MSKB items on 2003 PST's, so I can't help. After you make backup copies, run scanpst.exe on them and see if it helps (if it will even run), or try to open them with Outlook 2002.

Re: PST files (Outlook 2003 Beta)

    John,
Will definitely follow your advise. I do know that 2003 has two different structures. One for 2003 and the other is for 97-2002. I believe that 2003 utilizes unicode whereas 97-2002 are able to support it.
Any success will be reported. Thanks

Re: PST files (Outlook 2003 Beta)

    John,

ScanPST worked on all the .pst files I was having problems with. They have been processed and are now restored and backup copies have been saved to a different drive and directory.

Thank you for your excellent suggestions and help.

I extend thanks to all who read the original post and offerred suggestions.

    Bill
