    Win2kServer Permissions Palaver...

    Hello,

A friend who has a small LAN (5 PCs) linked to a Win2k Server box has some

    Permissions Problem.

In just a handful of folders, even the Administrator cannot enter them.

Problem is that now, because those folders are locked, so the Nortons

Antivirus is going crazy as it can't access them. The EVNTVWR shows how

Nortons tries over 9 times per second to open files & all are locked. This

activity seems to also be slowing the Server down.

My Q. is this; could this be a virus? or is it more likely to be a silly

mistake from my friend (he's doesn't know much about computers!).

Message is simply "<name of file> is not accessible. Access is denied"

Please advise what can be done now as he had no backup of the files & no-one

    can access them!

    Regards.

This is probably stuff which has been tried, but if you want details on how to do the following let me know:

    - Has he tried taking ownership of the folders/files? if so, what is the error message then?
    - Has he tried ntbackup of the folder files, then restore to a different location without restoring Security?

Is he trying to access the files from a client PC or on the server itself? What does the security tab show?

These are the kind of symptoms which happen when a Profile is deleted. As <!profile=sensi>sensi<!/profile> suggests, have the Administrator try to take ownership of the folders.
