    Tables not working (Word 97)

    I attach a screen print of how a table displays on one users machine. There should be 2 columns, 10 rows and headings Name and Description in the top row.

    The document opens properly on other machines. But no tables work on this one machine.

    Any ideas gratefully received.

    The screen shot suggests that the user has set the "Files of Type" box in the File | Open dialog to "Recover Text from Any File (*.*)" instead of "All Word Documents" or "Word Documents".

    It can be very confusing. And the setting is "sticky" - once the user has selected "Recover Text from Any File", whether intentionally or by accident, the File | Open dialog will use this setting until another one is selected explicitly.
