Re: Copy keyboard hot keys functions from firm.dot

    Hi Pat:
Keyboard assignments, unfortunately, were not included in the items that could be copied from the Organizer. However, Chris Woodman created a shorcut organizer. I got it here. As a bonus, it allows quick access to creating & modifying doc variables.
    Hope this helps,

(Edited by jscher2000 on 21-Oct-03 20:54. Whoops added.)
You can diagnose a key assignment using the Tools>Customize...>Keyboard dialog. When you try to assign those keystrokes to a different command, Word should tell you the name of the macro to which they are currently assigned. You also can print out keyboard assignments using the "Print What" option in the File>Print dialog.

As you probably know, to then access the contents of a global template you will have to open it directly. Otherwise, the project will be inaccessible in the VBE.

Whoops - I forgot you can assign keystrokes directly to symbols in the Insert>Symbol... dialog. That is much more likely in your situation than a macro keystroke assignment.

Copy keyboard hot keys functions from firm.dot (Word 2000, Sp2/Win NT/SP6

(Edited by P O'Rourke on 22-Oct-03 01:54. edited "microsoft tools" to read "Microsystems Tools" )
Our firm is moving to Microsystems Tools plus Legal MacPac and part of the transition means that we will eliminate the 'Firm.dot' but keep certain of those functions and create a new 'Office.dot'. We have some Marlett bullets which are 'hot keys'. For example, we have Alt+[ to insert a Marlett bullet and Alt +] to search on those bullets. Can anyone tell me how I discover the code in our firm.dot? I have searched but cannot seem to find the vba in our firm to copy over to the new office.dot. I've just ordered a couple of books from Amazon (naturally one is Woody's "Special Edition ... " published Aug 15 ) and I'm hoping that somewhere in those books I will find the answer! But in the meantime - until Amazon ships - can anyone enlighten me? I'm afraid what I know about this topic would fit on the head of a pin with space left over. TIA for anything . . .

I'm so excited!! Thanks Phil - it WORKS!! and thanks jscher - it wasn't working but when I actually opened the Firm.dot - success! What I needed not so much the keyboard assignment, but the macro to search on the symbol - and I can pick up other macros that I feared were lost like printing minute book paper, print letterhead from tray 3 etc. A lot of these macros were simply not showing up under Tools|Customize|Macros. What a great utility and it's
