    Toolbar customization (excel xp)

I had Office XP forced on me and the install pakage overwrote my personal.xls. Very annoying. There is a Question Box up in the upper right corner of the menubar. Can that be deleted? I can't seem to find it on the Customizaton menu. Thought someone might know offhand. Thanks.

Select Tools | Customize... or right-click an empty part of the menu bar and select Customize... from the context menu.
Right-click the "Type a question for help" box. You'll get a popup window with a check box.
Click the check box to clear it.
Close the Customize dialog. The "Type a question for help" box will disappear.
You get it back the same way (the box reappears when you display the Customize dialog).

Would you know the toolbar filename in XP? I cannot get Excel to save filenames for the toolbar so I have to rename and click on them separately. Thanks.

I don't understand your question at all. Could you try again?

Toolbar customizations are saved in a file with an xlb extension somewhere on the c-drive. The location and name depends on the windows and xl version.

I was told correctly that Excel2000 toolbar files were named Excel10.xlb. What is the corresponding name in XP? Thanks.

    Re: Toolbar customization (excel xp)

On every installation of Excel 2000 I have had, the file has simply been called Excel.xlb. I believe Excel10.xlb relates to Excel XP. (On Excel 2003, it is Excel11.xlb.)

    Re: Toolbar customization (excel xp)

    Office 95 = Office 7
    Office 97 = Office 8
    Office 2000 = Office 9
    Office XP = Office 10
    Office 2003 = Office 11

Excel10.xlb is the name of the toolbar file for Excel 2002 aka XP, it can't have been the correct name for Excel 2000.
