    An apocryphal tale

I just found this "apocryphal tale" while searching for something totally unrelated (as usual):
<hr>Radio interchange overheard by Cornish coastguard

Operator A: "Unidentified vessel, you are in our path, please alter course."

Operator B: "Negative, suggest you alter course."

Operator A: "This is the United States Navy, I repeat, amend your course immediately."

Operator B: "And I repeat - alter yours."

Operator A: "Unidentified vessel, this is the USS Missouri aircraft carrier and we insist that you change course immediately."

Operator B: "USS Missouri, this is the Eddystone Lighthouse. Your call."<hr>
Can anybody spot what makes this a truely apocryphal tale?

This is the one that hit me straight away.
Hans' solution was far too subtle for me to have even considered. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

I don't know when this "tall tale" was meant to have taken place, so conceivably <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #000000; font-weight: bold"><font color=yellow>the Mighty Mo may have still been sailing the high seas, and the lighthouse may have been still manned.</font color=yellow></span hi>
