SMTIDY for XP/2K

Is there some utility available for Win XP or 2000 that is the equivalent of SMTIDY? This was a highly useful component in Win95/98 for cleaning up defective links in the Start Menu, and I can't think why it would have been dropped.

David,

My old friend "System Mechanic" will do this for you ( along with a LOT of other utility things).
It has a check for invalid shortcuts tab, where you can scan an entire drive or just the Start Menu. You can then try to locate the broken shortcut target or delete it if you wish. This is a GOOD utility, as I have said many times.

Download a trial or buy it at System Mechanic

BTW,
Another thought came to me. A good prog to check the validity of your "favorites" links is called am-deadlink. It will run through all of your favorites links and show if they are still valid or not responding or 404, etc. You can delete them or double check them for changes and update them.

It is ware and you can DL it at: Deadlink

You can try Start Meny Cleaner available at http://www.mithril.d.se. It is free and works nicely.

Hi Zave

I got a 404 with your Start Menu Cleaner url. However, it can be downloaded from the home page at Iceview.

Have a Great day!!!

Hi David:
I have Win98 SE & can't find smtidy. In fact, it's not on my CD either. I wonder if there's a way to find it as I searched Google, but only came up with articles that said I already had it.

If I'm remembering clearly, SMTIDY first showed up in 95 Plus, and then 98, but it wasn't part of 98's default Installation.
