    Safari trashs Web pages (FrontPage 2002)

    I have a Web site http://www.fairfieldaviation.com which looks fine when viewed with IE and Netscape for Windows, but when viewed by Apple's Safari browser and IE for the Mac it is a mess. Is there a simple fix? I do not own a Mac, but 3 people have advised me of the problem.

    Maybe it has something to do with this code?

    <pre>MSFPhover =
    (((navigator.appName == "Netscape") &&
    (parseInt(navigator.appVersion) >= 3 )) ||
    ((navigator.appName == "Microsoft Internet Explorer") &&
    (parseInt(navigator.appVersion) >= 4 ))); </pre>

    Try creating a simple web page for testing in Safari such as:

    <html>
    <body>

    Browser Sniffing Results</p>
    <table border="1" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="5">
    <tr>
    <td>navigator.appName</td>
    <td><script>document.write(navigator.appName);</script></td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
    <td>parseInt(navigator.appVersion)</td>
    <td><script>document.write(parseInt(navigator.appV ersion));</script></td>
    </tr>
    </table>
    </body>
    </html>

    This will at least tell you what browser it is being detected as.

    I do think this is some odd code:

    But I can't say for sure whether it's W3C compliant without a close analysis. And it's dinner time. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

    I changed my mind. This code (not your code, FrontPage's code) is complete junk. These themes don't make any sense to me, why should they work in any browser? Here's an example of the "new math," not to mention the inefficient layout, used by this theme; I've stripped most of the style information to show the point.

    <table width="100%">
    <tr>
    <td width="100%">
    <table width="100%">
    <tr>
    <td width="100%">
    <table width="100%">
    <tr>
    <td width="242" background="images/cellback.gif">
    [img]images/FAIRFI~1_r1_c1.gif[/img]
    </td>
    <td width="100%">
    <table width="100%">
    <tr>
    <td width="100%">
