    Unknown TMP files (XP SP1)

I've noticed lately that I have been accumulating a rather large group of zero byte TMP files in the Docs & Settings/My folder/local settings/history/temp Folder.
The amount of files can vary from a few to over a hundred. All zero, all dated the same day, same time stamp.

    They are named ie: 2A9.tmp, 2B4.tmp, 2EC.tmp, 3AC.tmp, etc & etc.

My question is, where are they coming from & why? How can I prevent them in the first place?

Whenever I think of it, I just delete them all and continue on my way without any apparent problems. <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15>

    Hi Bob,

I seem to recall Bruce having this problem about 6 months ago. Without the "search" function here in the lounge, and not having saved the thread I can't be sure though. I'll see if I have something in my backups that might help.

    Hi Doc,

You're right. I do recall someone having this same sort of problem, whether it was Bruce or not I just don't remember. If you come across something it would be appreciated.

    ( Search....where are you??????)

These are places you have been on the internet. How many days do you have your IE history set for? It is 20 days by default. I have mine set to 4, my nephew has it set to '0', a friend has it set to 7. IMHO anything over 7 is useless as you will have too much muck to slog through and need a very long memory to remember what your looking for and when. If they get out of hand just hit Ctrl + A and then Delete.

    Cowboy

No, mine are very specifically CAxxxxxx (where the x's are alphanumeric characters) - no .TMP suffix, and only 8 characters long.
