    Envelope Error (Office 2000)

I have just migrated from a Windows ME computer to a Windows XP Pro computer. I have installed Office 2000 on the new computer. Whenever I try to print an envelope (using Tools...Envelopes and Labels) from an address typed into a document, I get this message: "The margins of section 1 are set outside the printable area of the page. Do you want to continue?" If I click YES, the envelope prints, but it's blank! This never happened to me on the ME computer. I am using the same document with the address in it as I used before. Anyone know why I'm getting these print errors? Thanks for any help. Suz

What model printer are you using?

    It's an HP LaserJet 3300.

Hmmm. HP has updated drivers for a number of LaserJets for a "Word Margins Fix" on LaserJet Beta, but the 3300 is not among them.

Perhaps one of the Knowledge Base articles here helps.

Your problem is often mentioned in the MS newsgroups but I didn't find a definitive solution.

If I plug the printer into the Windows ME system, also running Word 2000, the envelopes print fine. It seems to be something happening only on the Windows XP system. Does that make sense?

I assume that the XP printer driver for your LaserJet is different from the ME printer driver. And Windows XP handles a lot of things differently from older versions of Windows...

    Re: Envelope Error (Office 2000)

I have the latest drivers from the HP site installed on this system. I just tried again and this time answered yes to the message, printing to a regular 8.5x11" sheet. This message was printed:
    Print XL error
    Subsystem: KERNEL
    Error: MissingAttribute
    Operator: BeginPage
    Position: 4

Does that tell you anything, Hans?

    Re: Envelope Error (Office 2000)

Some newsgroup threads suggest that this error message is caused by problems in HP's PCL6 drivers; they recommend installing a PCL5 driver. I have no idea whether it'll work in your case, but you might check whether you have a PCL6 driver, and if so, try to find a PCL5 driver on the HP site.

Thanks for your help, Hans. I installed a PCL5 driver, and now the envelopes print fine. Thanks again. Suz
