    Tab key weirdness

After having installed Excel 2000, a strange development has occurred that affects not only Excel but my entire desktop.

When I press the tab key, it does not move horizontally but rather moves back and forth between various items which are open on the Taskbar.

For example, after having finished with the "subject" box on this posting, when I press the tab, it does not go to this box, but rather causes me to shift to Outlook Express. Likewise, I cannot navigate horizontally on my Excel cells by pressing tab, as I would like to do. Rather, it goes to some other program which may happen to be open on my taskbar.

How do I return to orthodox behavior. so that by pressing Tab, I remain within the application I am using rather than switching back an forth?

This appears to be a Windows problem not an Excel problem because it affects other applications.

This sounds like what happens when Alt-Tab is pressed. However, other than a key that got stuck at the same time (coincidence), I don't know why it would suddenly start after installing Excel. Do you use a special keyboard?

No, I use a regular keyboard and someone on another list has experienced the same problem. He says the OS gets progressively more unstable. The only cure he knows is to shut down and reboot.

    All the problem is a sticking alt key. This happens from time to time. Just press alt a few times to fix. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15> <img src=/S/smash.gif border=0 alt=smash width=30 height=26>
