    Viruses and Uninstall

I'm working on a computer that was connected to a network and no longer is. However, once disconnected from the network it was also disconnected from the virus protection program. And the viruses are running rampant. I've tried re-installing Win98 on top of everything but I still can't get rid of the old files. My next step is to delete all files from the hard drive and reformat it. Is this the best choice? If so, what's the best way?
    Thanks

Well, I guess the best (i.e., most effective) method would be to wipe the hard drive clean and reformat. However, that is usually a multi-hour, eh, experience.Have you considered just getting one of the free Antivirus program out there?

Yeah, I tried installing NAV 2004. However a couple of the files seem to be corrupt. I can't load the program properly. It keeps shutting down halfway. There's some problem with a MS C++ file.

    Hi feather

Are you sure they are all "viruses"?
Could some/most be spyware/adware obtained while surfing the net?
If so, the post Anti Adware, Spyware, Hijack might help you find some free software to get rid of at least some of the problem. After that, perhaps an Antivirus might install. AVG Free Edition is used by many in the lounge and may install if NAV doesn't..

    Have a Great day!!!
