    Recycler (XP home SR 1)

I've just begun to notice the Recycler. It came to my attention when I began doing backups onto an external hard drive. What little I learned suggested it was just a redundant Recycle bin, for each user. What is it and can I delete it from the HD?

By recycler you probably mean you are seeing the recycle bin file after you've shown all hidden files and folders. What does this look like and where do you see it? Try going to Tools>Folder Options>View and check do not show hidden folders and do not show hidden OS folders. If that hides this, I wouldn't worry further.

Recycler is the recycle bin for each harddrive. Don't delete it. Leave it be.

If for some reason you're able to delete it, I'd say Windows is pretty hosed anyway!
