Lost directory tree-line (WinXP)

The little dashy lines 'connecting' directories and forming the directory-'tree' are gone.... How could this have happened and how can I fix?

In Windows Explorer, select Tools | Folder Options...
Activate the View tab.
Clear the "Display simple folder view in Explorer's Folder lists" check box.

Isn't it amazing what can be done if you know where Microsoft has hidden the option?!

Yeah, "display simple folder view" isn't the first thing that comes to mind when you are looking for connecting lines in a tree view.
