    Record Ping Test

Is there a way you can record the results of a ping test in a text file.............?????

    OR

When you run a batch script it displays text via a dos command prompt, is there a method to record this to a text file.............???

    AND

if either of these are posible can the recorded texted be placed at the bottom of an existing text file......

    Cheers
    Phil

The > operator sends output of a command (which can be a batch file) to a new file whose name is specified after the > character.
The >> operator does the same, but appends to an existing file.

    Examples:

    ping 100.200.100.200 > C:Result.txt

    Test.bat >> C:Result.txt

    Re: Record Ping Test

What information are you actually wanting to obtain for the PING test? If you are going to do a lot of them, you are going to get about six lines per PC with the standard defaults.

If all you want to do is to determine whether the PC at the other end is active on the network (perhaps just switched on) you want to process the results of the PING command before writing to a file, perhaps including the date and time when you did it, as in:

    2003/10/27 14:22 FRED0001 found active on 123.45.67.89
2003/10/27 15:01 GLADYS03 did not respond to PING

If you say what you actually want to see, something could be constructed for your delectation!

    Ita, esto, quidcumque...
