    multi-column combo -list box

    It is possible to make a list or combo box that has multiple columns say 5
    a1 a11 a21 a31 a41
    a2 a12 a22 a32 a42
    a3 etc.

    I would like thee names of all 50 states in the union to appear in a combo box 5 columns wide, where the selection is for a single state variable

    Do you mean that you want five states to appear in one row, and then you want to just select one state in that row? If you do why? If you don't please explain!

    thanks i will use the grid. but i have seen this in a dephi application i thought it replicated in access

    You may have seen something in Delphi that did this, but it wasn't a combobox like those in Access. The Access combobox only returns a single value for a row, now matter how many columns the combobox has. You're trying to do something else entirely from the sounds of it, and it isn't something you can do with a combobox or listbox. There may well be custom controls that will allow this kind of selection, but there's nothing built in.
