Turning off the 'new email' taskbar reminder (2000)

Is it possible to turn off off the indicator in the taskbar that tells you there's new mail waiting? I find this very distracting.

I know you can turn off the 'new mail' popup reminder, cursor flash and sound, but I want to turn off the little yellow envelope on the bottom right as well. It just sits there, tantalisingly inviting me to stop work and click on it!

Thanks for any clues.

The following works in Outlook 2002; I suppose it is the same in Outlook 2000:

Select Tools | Options...
Activate the Preferences tab (if necessary)
Click E-mail Options...
Click Advanced E-mail Options...
Clear the 'Show an envelope icon in the system tray' check box.
Click OK thrice.

This is not an option. Not that it's much consolation, but you can turn this off in Outlook 2003.

I don't remember having that icon in Outlook 2000, but perhaps that was because I was configured in CW (corporate/workgroup) mode.

It must be there for you surely? Both my home and work Outlook 2000 have it, and they are configured in the two different ways.

Odd, I have OL 2000 in C/W mode, the Icon shows, and I can't find a setting to turn it off. I can find that setting in XP though.

Could be a memory lapse. I switched to XP a few months ago. I don't have it now, and I don't recall having it then. Just lucky, I guess.

It just occurred to me: Perhaps I don't remember it because I only check e-mail manually. There's nothing worse than nagging messages! (Well, IM would be worse, but I've never installed it.)
