    modem? trouble (XP Pro sr1)

    Hi All,

Just installed above OS on a brand new laptop.

When I use dialup to connect to internet, all works OK. Until I disconnect.
Then the system becomes instable and hangs. In all cases I am unable to redial or check the properties of the connection.
Sometimes I am even unable to shutdown Win and have to pull the plug and detach the battery to get out.

    Anyone???

Could be the modem driver - is it an external unit?
(I often get the 'cleanest' results with external types by using the simple 'generic' driver if XP doesn't recognise it...)

    It is an internal one.

How do I tell XP to use a generic driver?

You need to go to the OEM web site of the maker of this lap top and find ALL of the drivers that model. Download and install ALL of them.

When Windows was installed it installed "Generic Drivers" unless the OEM provided a working drivers for their devices, which were very few.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.
