    New e-mail shortcut (Outlook 2003)

When using Outlook 2002 I was able to put shortcuts on my WinXP task bar to send a new e-mail message and set up a new appointment. This meant that I did not have to open Outlook to perform these functions. I cannot figure out how to set up the same shortcuts in Outlook 2003. Any ideas? Thanks in advance./ cel
