Bullet for one line bullets all lines (Word 2000)

Very frustrating problem has cropped up where I bullet a line and it results in all lines in the document being bulleted. Has anyone seen similar? Thanks.

Thoughts FWIW...Are you using the same style, e.g., Normal, throughout the document? Do you have Automatically update selected in the Format>Styles>Modify Styles display?

Depending on the answers to those questions, you may want to consider using a different style for the bullets than you do for the other paragraphs in the document. and deselecting the Automatically update feature. HTH

Automatically Destroy Your Documents has been a royal pain. I never use it, but others here do and it seems that when I've edited their documents, I've picked up style changes I didn't want because of it. From what I can tell, the combination of AU and Based On Normal acts like a perpetual motion machine to continuously hammer styles. Having said that, the problem I'm running into is even after clearing AU and Based On for all styles, I still cannot avoid the problem of one bulleted line bulleting them all. I will try your bullet by style idea. Sounds like a good workaround. I'll let you know. Thanks.

The Automatically update document styles is found under Tools/Templates & Add-ins. That's the one you want to deselect, too. You might also go to Tools/autocorrect/Autoformat as you type & deselect the options you don't want (probably most of them).
Cheers,
