Deleting unwanted Email (N/S 4.76)

How can I DELETE an incoming Email message without having it OPEN when I click on it to delete it.
I am using WinXP Home and N/S 4.7

First of all, you can use filters to send most SPAM to the trash. Before you delete your email, you probably have two panes open...one listing the messages & the other a viewing menu. Between the two is a bar separating them. In the center of that bar is a hashed bar that you can click on to open or close the viewing window. Close the window & you can delete the messages without viewing them. Also, you can click the little connection bar in the status bar. That will switch you offline so that the message can't send anything "home".
    Cheers,

Adding to what Phil has said, under normal circumstances your mail, even if you don't "preview" it, has already been "downloaded" to your machine's hard drive. There are SOME antivirus programs, like McAfee for instance, that will DELETE everything in your email INBOX if a virus or worm is detected. You run the risk, as someone I know a couple of days ago had happen, of losing ALL the messages that have just been downloaded into your Inbox if one of them contains a virus or worm.

Ever since I learned about it here in The Lounge, I've been using the free MailWasher. I don't know if you can still download the version from this link or not, so you can try. When he decided to go "commercial" he gave a free copy of the MailWasher Pro version to all then current users. The Pro version is now $30 but I personally think it's worth it. It has MANY new features, like SSL, that make it worth the price.

In case you never heard about this type of software, MailWasher lets you preview your email while it's still on the SERVER at your ISP, i.e. it never gets to your hard drive until you tell your email client that you're ready to download the messages. MailWasher has saved my fanny too many times to mention. Give it a look.

...You guys SURE are QUICK...

No problem, PaJan! Some of us patrol the hallways all night looking for questions hiding behind doors. AND, it has been reported (rumored) that there's at least one Lounger who has (Heh, heh) more than the normal allotment of fingers, which makes him even quicker than the rest of us mere mortals!
