Desktop Issues

Please see attachment. I can't seem to get rid of the two pictures in the middle of my desktop. I have changed desktops on the "display properties" screen, but the two pictures still remain. Can anyone help me out?

    Thanks!

    Re: Desktop Issues

What have you got in the "Background" section of Display Properties => Desktop? Try changing it to one of the supplied backgrounds (such as None, right at the top of the list). What happens to the desktop then?

The cliff-and-sea-scape (Avalon?) isn't one of the standard backgrounds supplied by Microsoft, as far as I am aware...! I like the modified "Bliss" background/wallpaper, with Bill Gates as a Teletubby...

Are those two pictures (or is it a composite of 2 pictures?) on your system anywhere ??? What happens when you right-click directly on those pictures and select properties ??? Do you still get the Display Properties window ?? What were you doing when you first noticed them ???

    Twiley4--

Did those come from your My Pictures folder or someplace like a photo album where you store your pictures or are they from a screensaver?

    Re: Desktop Issues

The pictures came from a web site. The pictures are not active, I get the same dropdown window that I get anywhere on the desktop. I first noticed them when I set them as background from the web pictures.

As far as I know these two pictures are not in the computer anywhere, except as you see on the desktop.

    Re: Desktop Issues

Do you recall what website they came from?? Have you checked in your Windows folder to see if there are any "strange" .bmp files there?? Have you tried going to another site and setting a picture from ther as your wallpaper and then changing to something else ?? You might try dumping your Temp folder to see if they got "stuck", but I'm guessing that something is corrupt or infected.

    Re: Desktop Issues

    Check this:

Go to Display properties>Desktop>customize desktop>web tab> uncheck "lock desktop items" Apply & OK out.

Then change your desktop view to "none". Apply.

    Re: Desktop Issues

Thanks also Bob. I was looking for that. The same thing happened to me when I first realized I could get webpage pictures and use them as desktop wall paper and then I couldn't get rid of an image and I felt my way around the display properties box and was trying to think back to how I did it. This is useful to stow away.

    Re: Desktop Issues

As is often the case, the simple answer is the correct one. I'd never had that happen to me, but then, I always save the pictures I want before I use them. I'm just wondering if the system does that little lock-down trick or if the website causes it ??? Either way....... good work Bob !!!

I suspect the website slips that little "change" in there, but who knows?

Kinda what I thought too. My reference to infected was spyware related. Similar to the way your homepage gets hijacked or changed.

I have not had this problem, but that option was unfamiliar to me, always good to know Viking, particularly since I alter my desktop pictures often and always to those that are not ms.
